We only operate with about 10% of our conscious mind. The remaining 90% of our mind is the subconscious. It is from the subconscious mind that we know how to brush our teeth, drive to work, make breakfast, etc. All habitual routines come from our subconscious mind. Therefore, when you want to change a habit, oftentimes to be effective you need to work at the subconscious level to break or change that habit since that is where it originates. It is when you are hypnotized that the hypnotist can reach the subconscious mind.
Our conscious mind is the critical mind and the thinker. It uses logic and analytics and reasons what you should do, but it has little power to do it. An example is that your conscious mind knows smoking is bad for you but it has little to no control to stop doing it. Our subconscious mind is the doer. It accepts all information and stores all memories. It is automatic and non-critical. Since it does not discern, you continue to do what it knows. For this reason, hypnosis quiets the brain so it can reach the subconscious mind to reprogram the information. Example: the subconscious mind would be told that smoking is a bad habit, it is not good for your health, and that you no longer need it in your life. It changes the way your brain thinks about it and breaks that habit.
Hypnotherapy assists life coaching when we may run into blocks. Hypnotherapy can stand on its own and does not have to be used in conjunction with life coaching. Examples of that include:
