Hypnosis is a state of focused attention, heightened suggestibility, and deep relaxation. During hypnosis, individuals may become more open to suggestions, which can influence their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. When I see my clients for hypnosis in my Janesville, Wisconsin office or online via Zoom, I discuss with them the power of their thoughts and share techniques on how to ensure their thoughts are productive for them.
Contrary to popular belief, hypnosis is not a form of mind control where people lose their will. Instead, it’s a cooperative interaction between the hypnotist and the person being hypnotized. People under hypnosis still have awareness and control over their actions, and they cannot be forced to do anything against their will.
What is Hypnosis Used For?
Hypnosis has been used for various purposes, including therapeutic applications such as managing pain, reducing anxiety, overcoming phobias, and assisting with behavior change such as smoking cessation or weight loss. It is also used in entertainment settings, such as stage hypnosis shows, where participants may engage in humorous or dramatic behaviors in response to suggestions. When I work with my clients one-on-one or in group settings around the Janesville, Wisconsin area, and even online I let them
know that stage show hypnosis is for entertainment purposes but what I do is clinical hypnosis, and that is the difference between stage show hypnosis being funny and entertaining.

What to Expect While in Hypnosis
The experience of hypnosis can vary from person to person, but there are some common sensations and feelings that people may experience:
Deep relaxation:
Many people feel deeply relaxed during hypnosis, similar to the
sensation of being in a calm and peaceful state. It often involves a gradual release of tension in the body and a sense of mental calmness.
Heighten focus:
Hypnosis typically involves a heightened state of focus and
concentration. You might find that your attention becomes more directed and absorbed in the hypnotic process.
Increased awareness:
Some people report heightened awareness of their thoughts, feelings, and bodily sensations during hypnosis. It can feel like you’re more in tune with your inner experiences.
Altered perception of time:
Time may seem to pass differently during hypnosis. Some individuals may feel as though time is speeding up or slowing down, while others may lose track of time altogether.
Suggestibility:
Hypnosis often involves increased suggestibility, meaning that
you may be more open to accepting and responding to suggestions made by the hypnotist. These suggestions can influence your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in various ways.
Sense of control:
Despite the increased suggestibility, you remain in control
during hypnosis. You can choose to accept or reject suggestions, and you cannot be forced to do anything against your will.
Heightened imagery:
Some people experience vivid mental imagery during hypnosis. This may involve visualizing specific scenes or scenarios suggested by the hypnotist or accessing memories more easily. Many of my clients also report seeing colors.
When I see my clients in my Janesville, Wisconsin office or online via Zoom, I ensure they know what to expect during the hypnosis session. I have found that if I do not share what to expect, their conscious mind wonders and then wanders to find the answer. During hypnosis we are working with the subconscious mind and want the conscious mind to take a break.
Why Does Hypnosis Work at the Subconscious Level?
Hypnosis works at the subconscious level primarily because it bypasses the critical faculty of the conscious mind, allowing direct access to the subconscious mind. The subconscious mind is responsible for many automatic functions, beliefs, habits, and emotions, and it operates beneath the level of conscious awareness. The conscious mind is responsible for logical thinking, analyzing, judging, questioning, and critiquing.
Overall, hypnosis leverages the power of suggestion, relaxation, and altered states of consciousness to access and influence the subconscious mind. Through skilled guidance and practice, hypnosis can facilitate profound change in beliefs, emotions, habits, and behaviors at the subconscious level, leading to personal growth, healing, and transformation.

Where Can I Learn About Becoming a Hypnotist?
I am a certified trainer to teach others to become a Certified Professional Hypnotist. I offer classes twice a year, in the winter and the fall. Depending on the student’s location, the training is mainly conducted via Zoom, but I do offer some of the classes in my Janesville, Wisconsin office when the students are within driving distance of me.
I teach a 100+ hour course that is a hybrid model. This means the education is received via reading, watching videos, practice hours, observation, as well as class time with me. With my course I also provide marketing information to help you start and grow your business as well as a one-year monthly group online mentoring session.
